Introduction
Michael has personally counselled and coached more than ten thousand people over 30 years both individually and in groups. His specialty is identifying and removing the sub-conscious obstacles that prevent people from achieving their goals. In most cases it is a matter of supporting the person to move through some emotional barrier. This requires a commitment, an open mind and an acceptance of personal responsibility. If this is forthcoming then the results are usually impressive.
Relationship Counselling
When counselling couples the focus is to support them to resolve differences, develop effective communication and learn techniques for bonding and intimacy in order to create a harmonious, productive and loving relationship together. While for individuals, counselling involves resolving the upset/issue and working out how to get on with the other person/persons, as well as recognising how they are contributing to the breakdown with their partner or family.

Mediation
Disagreements, upsets and resentment do not have to get in the way of a resolution.
Neutral Third Party
In the presence of a neutral third party it is easier to speak the facts, bring up the points of disagreement and work creatively to reach a solution. Often the disagreeing parties have not had a chance to fully state their case or fully hear the other side. When an understanding of both sides is achieved and the hidden agenda is brought to the surface, a solution is likely to occur.
No Right or Wrong
In arriving at a solution it is necessary to understand that neither party is wrong or right. Both parties have their own perspective and believe it to be right. If there has been an upset during negotiations, the individual perspectives are often polarised, blinding one or both parties to other possibilities and a resolution.
Timely
Mediation needs to be timely, during the early stages of a dispute there are usually more opportunities for resolution. If a disagreement persists, then external circumstances can take over and the possibility for resolution may pass.
Solution
Using a professional mediator will improve the communication, help find the true interests and guide both parties towards a solution. Sometimes a solution where both parties achieve their outcomes is not possible, and it is important that this is understood as early as possible to save time and more upset. Then a next step, "plan B" can be put into place.
